An evening or afternoon just for you. No other groups, no shared space. The studio is all yours.

You'll get to know one of the world's oldest dyeing techniques: indigo, dyed with an iron-based indigo vat — prepared, controlled, and checked daily.

Shibori — Color through Resistance.

Shibori is the Japanese art of resist dyeing: the pattern is not determined by the dye, but by what you keep it away from. Folding, tying, clamping — each technique creates its own imprint.

For Itajime, the fabric is folded geometrically and pressed between wooden plates or clamps. Sharp edges, clear shapes, often symmetrical.

For Arashi, the fabric is wrapped diagonally around a pole and pushed together. The result is reminiscent of rain or waves.

For Kumo, the fabric is tied off in several places. Concentric circles emerge at irregular intervals, organic and never the same.

For free tying, you decide yourself: knotting, rolling, wrapping. No plan, no mistakes.

How it works.

You'll be welcomed with a glass of natural wine — or an alcohol-free alternative. Then we'll get started.

We begin with a brief introduction: what is indigo, how does the vat work, what happens during dyeing. About 15 minutes, focused and without slides. Wear old clothes and dark shoes — indigo leaves traces that are part of the experience.

Then you'll first practice on a small tablecloth. You'll try out techniques, see how indigo reacts, develop a feel for fabric and resistance. Only then will you move on to the T-shirt.

Each dip takes only a few minutes. After that, oxidation begins: indigo reacts with air and transforms from green to blue — right before your eyes.

We take care of all the post-processing: washing out, neutralizing, ironing, labeling. Tablecloth and T-shirt. After approx. 10 days, you can pick up your pieces or we can send them to you.

FAQ

Do we need to bring anything?

No. All textiles and materials are included.

Clothing and preparation

What should I wear?
Wear clothes that can get dirty – indigo leaves stains that don't always wash out. The same goes for shoes: it's best to wear dark or old shoes, no light sneakers or delicate materials.

Do I need to bring an apron?
No, we provide aprons in the studio.

Can indigo stain skin?
Yes, indigo can temporarily stain hands and skin blue. This fades within a few days. We have gloves available on-site.

Can we dye our own textiles?

No. We work with pre-prepared materials for consistent results.

Should we take the dyed pieces home with us?

No. The textiles are washed and neutralized in the studio after the workshop. This ensures that the colors last and the pieces are durable.

Are there parking spaces?

Parking is limited. Public transport is recommended.
